How to Use Our Piaggio/Vespa Basecoat Paints:

1. Ensure surface is suitably prepared
Surface should not be bare metal and should be either primed with a suitable product or is old paint which has been flatted to provide a key for the new paint. The surface should be smooth, without visible scratches or imperfections. Good preparation at this stage is vital to achieving a good finished result.

2. Ensure the surface to be painted is thoroughly clean, grease/oil free and dry
Contaminants on the surface can cause the paint to react, prevent good adhesion and any foreign bodies, no matter how small, could be clearly visible on the finished job.

3. Be aware of the conditions when painting
Ideally apply the paint indoors in a warm, clean dust free environment. Application of paint in low temperatures or at times of high humidity can cause problems.

4. Paint application
Apply the paint sparingly. Do not apply too much at a time. Build up coats allowing 10-15 minutes drying time in between (dependant on conditions, temperature etc).

5. Ensure basecoat is throughly dry before applying lacquer topcoat
The basecoat needs to be thoroughly dry before the lacquer is applied, failure to do so can result in solvent being trapped below the lacquer, causing problems. Do not leave the basecoat without a lacquer topcoat for too long. Ideally the job should be completed on the same day.

6. Finishing
Once lacquer is thoroughly dry and hard any imperfections such as dust specks can be sanded out using 2000 grit wet and dry sandpaper and a compound can be used to polish to a high gloss finish.
